FAQs

What Your Child Is Actually Learning

A name puzzle is one of the most powerful early literacy tools available — and it works precisely because children are deeply motivated to learn their own name. When a child repeatedly handles, places, and removes letters that spell their name, they are building foundational skills that underpin reading and writing.

Letter recognition: Children begin to identify individual letters by shape before they can read them phonetically.
Fine motor development: Gripping, rotating, and placing each wooden piece strengthens the pincer grip essential for writing.
Spatial reasoning: Fitting each piece into its correct slot builds early logic and problem-solving habits.
Self-concept: Seeing their name as a physical object reinforces identity and confidence — a cornerstone of the Montessori approach.
Concentration: Completing the puzzle encourages a full attention cycle, even in very young children.

This is play with purpose — the kind that quietly prepares children for the classroom.
